Mutatsiya bugungi kunda biologiyada genlarning o'zgarishiga olib keladigan juda muhim tushunchadir. Mutatsiya - bu DNK molekulasining azotli asoslari ketma-ketligining doimiy o'zgarishi. Mutatsiya natijasi odatda ushbu gen tomonidan belgilangan yakuniy mahsulotning o'zgarishidir. Ba'zi hollarda, agar mikroorganizmda yangi metabolik faollik paydo bo'lsa, mutatsiya foydali bo'lishi mumkin yoki metabolik faollik yo'qolsa, u zararli bo'lishi mumkin.
